A child’s eye is growing, and the minus can grow with it. Laser correction isn’t done under 18: vision is still changing. The job is to fit glasses in time and track how the minus changes from one check-up to the next.

Laser and lens surgery are two different schools, and both work here, in one building. Laser correction is done by four surgeons, lens replacement by Dr. Galiyev and Dr. Zhanysbayev. If your case is borderline, you won’t be sent to another clinic: the second surgeon is right next door.

Laser isn’t right for every eye, and we’ll tell you before surgery, not after. Almost every “wait” has a bridge: another path at this same clinic, sometimes right next door.
While myopia is progressing, laser correction isn’t done: the eye keeps changing. The minus has to stop first — which shows on check-ups some time apart.
Vision is still changing; it’s too early for laser. Right now prescription glasses and monitoring the minus matter more. Myopia treatment for children.
It may not be enough for a flap, but that’s not a no yet. PRK doesn’t use up the cornea on a flap — the Pentacam scan decides.
Laser correction isn’t done with keratoconus. Cross-linking is needed — a different operation.
None of the three laser methods treats it. Then the surgeon will discuss another option — for example, replacing the lens. The decision is made after eye diagnostics.

First step
About two hours, and you leave with an answer about which path suits your eye: laser, lens surgery or simply new glasses. It’s decided not by a number on an old prescription but by the Pentacam corneal map and a check of the back of the eye.

What eye diagnostics includeFor those who like to understand
Myopia, or short-sightedness, is when the eye focuses the image a little too soon. Close up everything is sharp, but distance blurs: a bus number, the airport departures board, a friend’s face across the street.
Most often the eye is slightly longer than it should be, or the cornea bends light too strongly. The rays meet in front of the retina instead of on it, and distant objects lose sharpness. The bigger the minus on the prescription, the further the focus is from the retina.
Glasses and contact lenses put one more lens in front of the eye — the focus comes back while you wear them. Treating myopia changes the eye itself: laser changes the shape of the cornea, lens replacement changes the lens inside the eye. After that the minus is gone, and glasses are no longer needed.
You squint to read a road sign; your eyes are tired by evening; your old glasses don’t work as well; your child sits closer to the board or the TV. An eye test is one appointment, not a decision to have surgery.

No. Glasses and contact lenses help you see clearly while you wear them, but the minus stays. Myopia can be removed with laser correction (age 18–45, up to −12) or lens replacement (usually after 45 with a high minus). If you’re comfortable in glasses, surgery isn’t necessary — that’s a perfectly good choice.

PRK treats myopia up to −6.0 D, ReLEx SMILE from −0.5 to −10.0 D with astigmatism up to ±5.0, Femto-LASIK up to −12.0 D. These are our surgeons’ ranges. The exact method is chosen from the Pentacam scan: not only the minus but corneal thickness decides.
Usually from 18 to 45; the doctor decides exceptions based on your eye. After 45 with a high minus, lens replacement is more often discussed: it removes the minus inside the eye rather than on the cornea.
None of the three laser correction methods treats such a minus. That doesn’t mean nothing can be done: the surgeon will name the option for your minus and age after diagnostics. In the video review above, minus 13 was solved with lens replacement.
While myopia is progressing, laser correction isn’t done: it’s a contraindication. The minus has to stop first. Children don’t have laser at all before 18 — for them there’s myopia control for children.
Diagnostics first — about two hours. On surgery day it takes about 80 minutes from door to discharge, and the ReLEx SMILE correction itself lasts 25 seconds. No general anaesthesia; back to work the next day after ReLEx SMILE and Femto-LASIK, on day 3–4 after PRK. Follow-up checks for three months are free.
