How much does computer perimetry cost?
Computer perimetry (automated perimetry) at RB CLINIC costs 5,000 ₸ per test. If it was ordered for suspected glaucoma, the Glaucoma package is more convenient at 40,000 ₸ per visit: it includes express perimetry (the glaucoma test), pressure measured two ways, OCT and a talk with the doctor. Before cataract surgery, express perimetry is part of the Cataract package at 40,000 ₸ per visit. If the doctor prescribed the full computer perimetry specifically, that’s a separate test at 5,000 ₸ per test.
What is computer perimetry?
It’s a visual field test on a device called a perimeter. You look at a central dot inside a bowl while the device switches on lights of different brightness in different places. You press a button when you notice a light, and the computer builds a map: where you see well and where you notice light less.
Why is the visual field tested?
Most often for glaucoma: it takes away the edge of the visual field without the person noticing, and perimetry sees this earlier. The visual field is also tested on a neurologist’s referral, to find out whether the optic nerve or the pathway from the eye to the brain is affected, in retinal diseases, and to check whether treatment is working.
Does it hurt? Do I need drops?
It doesn’t hurt: the device doesn’t touch your eye. Perimetry needs no special preparation, and you can blink. Pupil-dilating drops are needed for other checks in the Glaucoma and Cataract packages — in that case it’s best not to drive after the visit.
What happens if I miss a flash or press by mistake?
Nothing bad. Some lights are deliberately on the edge of visibility: that’s how the device finds your sensitivity threshold, and misses in that zone are normal. The device also takes presses without a light into account. Don’t rush, and press when you’re sure.
Can the trial on this page replace perimetry?
No. The trial on the website only shows how the test goes. A phone screen, room lighting and two open eyes can’t measure the visual field, while the device at the clinic tests each eye separately, in a darkened room and at many points.
How is perimetry different from OCT?
OCT is a scan: it shows how the optic nerve and retina are built, layer by layer. Perimetry is a test: it shows how the nerve works, that is, what you actually see. With glaucoma the doctor needs both, which is why the Glaucoma package includes both.
How often should perimetry be repeated with glaucoma?
As often as your doctor says: perimetry is repeated to compare the map with the previous one and see whether treatment is holding. Bring your previous maps — that way changes are visible straight away. If you had the Glaucoma package with us, a follow-up visit costs 20,000 ₸ per visit and includes the glaucoma test.
