Can I have my lens replaced without cataract, to stop wearing glasses?
Yes, this is called clear lens replacement. It’s done when reading glasses get in the way after 45, or when your minus or plus is too high for laser. The operation is the same as for cataract, and the lens prices are the same. Whether it suits your eye, the surgeon decides at diagnostics.
How is lens replacement different from laser correction?
Laser reshapes the cornea and corrects myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. It’s done between 18 and 45. Lens replacement changes the lens inside the eye itself: it also corrects what laser can’t — reading glasses after 45, a very high minus or plus, cataract. If you’re under 45 and your minus is moderate, take a look at the laser vision correction page.
Which lens is best: monofocal, trifocal or EDOF?
The best one is the one that fits your day. A monofocal gives sharp distance; you keep glasses for the phone. An EDOF lens, such as AcrySof IQ Vivity, gives distance and screen, with small print sometimes in glasses. A trifocal, such as PanOptix or LuxSmart, gives distance, screen and phone — most things without glasses. With astigmatism, each has a toric version. The final lens choice is made from the calculation at diagnostics.
Will I see rings around headlights at night?
With trifocal lenses you may see light rings around headlights and street lamps in the evening. Extended-focus lenses have fewer, monofocals usually none. If you drive a lot in the dark, tell the surgeon before choosing the lens.
How long does an artificial lens last?
For life. A modern lens doesn’t cloud over, doesn’t wear out and never needs replacing. An eye with an artificial lens will never get cataract again.
Does lens replacement hurt?
No. The operation is done under local anaesthetic drops, with no general anaesthesia: the eye is numbed, and you’re awake. No stitches either.
Do I need to stay in hospital?
No, it’s an outpatient operation: you arrive in the morning, go home the same day, and the patch comes off the next morning.
Can I lose my sight after lens replacement?
Lens replacement is one of the most common and well-established eye operations. Serious complications are rare, and the risk is lowered by diagnostics beforehand and following your instructions closely afterwards. For complex eyes, the clinic has a surgeon who operates on both the lens and the retina.
Can my vision get worse again?
The lens itself doesn’t cloud over. But in some patients, months or years later, the capsule it sits in clouds over. Laser removes this in a few minutes, without incisions. If your surgery was done here, the laser is free in the first 3 months, and after six months it’s 40,000 ₸ instead of the usual 80,000 ₸ per eye. In between, we’ll tell you the price on WhatsApp.
My lens was replaced at another clinic, but I see poorly. What should I do?
Come in for diagnostics: the surgeon will find the cause — the capsule, the lens position or the lens itself. A clouded capsule is cleared by laser, a displaced lens is put back in place (from 250,000 ₸ per eye), a clouded lens is replaced (from 850,000 ₸ per eye, new lens not included).
Are both eyes done at once?
It can go either way: sometimes one eye first and the other later, sometimes both on the same day. The surgeon decides based on your case — after diagnostics he’ll tell you the plan in advance, before you book the surgery.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes. Kaspi — with no overpayment, for any surgery: for 12 months, and up to 24 months with Kaspi Juma. Halyk — 12 or 24 months, for cataract and laser vision correction only; the sales team will confirm Halyk’s terms.
